Thanks to all who attended Solas Bhride outside Kildare Town for our April Social on Wednesday of last week. We had a very good-sized group of 21 for the talk on St. Brigid, the story of the Solas Bhride Centre etc. from Sr. Phil-the director of the centre, with all staying on for refreshments in the canteen after. Thanks to the Brigidine Sisters for accommodating us and especially to Maria Thompson for the original idea of visiting and her persistence.
Our May Social is scheduled for TUESDAY 7 th May (day after Public Holiday) but at the moment I dont have anything planned. Our June Meeting will be the annual Summer Meeting (date to be organised) probably in the Laois Education Centre and our July Meeting (Tues 2nd July) is more or less sorted-Guided walk in Abbeyleix Bog. I would very much welcome suggestions for our May Meeting so if you are aware of any place/venue in your area that might be of interest please let me know. Being able to get tea/coffee close by would be a pre-requisite.
Also we had a previous proposal re. a Visit to the Dail and I have made preliminary enquiries re. the feasability of this. September onwards is a likely time for this visit as tours are booked up to the Dail Summer break. Travel would probably be each person’s responsibility-perhaps by train from Portlaoise (as many have free travel and others could go as companions) but anyway before I can proceed I need to determine interest. So if you are interested in participating in a Visit to the Dail (regardless of the date) please let me know as soon as possible so I can go ahead with arranging as there would probably need to be a minimum number.This trip would not necessary correspond with our First Tuesdays plans -it could be on any day of week.
