Summer General Meeting 6-6-23

Thanks to all who attended our (annual) Summer Meeting in the Laois Education Centre yesterday. We had an attendance of 35 which was  good considering the warm weather. For information of (new) members we only have 2 general meetings in the year-Summer and AGM (usually December) and also for the benefit of (new) members we usually have at least one social per month generally aimed at the first Tuesday of the month (c. 2.00pm). Our next social/meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 4th July with a visit to Gash Gardens, just outside Castletown. This will have a talk from the owner Mary Keenan the editor of The Irish Garden magazine (Google gashgardens.ie for more information) Tea/coffee etc. will also be served afterwards. I will email more details re time etc nearer to the date.

Re. Yesterday’s Meeting thanks also to those who sent apologies for their absence in advance .The Meeting was attended for the last time by outgoing General Secretary Billy Sheehan and he was given a presentation by current chairperson Breda Broderick and past chairman John Mulhare on behalf of the branch. The incoming General Secretary John O Brien also attended and with Billy reported the latest national RTAI news. Our own Mary McCarthy was also present for her first time as National President.

Votes of sympathy were passed with the family of member Alice Gaffney, and with Nancy Bracken,Anne Purcell and Kathleen O Connor on recent bereavements .

We had to rush the meeting a bit because of catering arrangements and didnt get much discussion on future social events . A sheet was passed around for signing/suggestions but some may have missed out. Trip to Mount Congreve in Waterford was  on sheet . There is some interest in that so if you wish your name to be added please email/text me . Also Solas Bhride in Killdare has got some interest and likewise re. your name. These trips  would involve car journeys/car pooling as busses not feasible.

There was good social interaction for lunch which followed the meeting and I thank the Education Centre for their usual efficiency.
Bain taitneamh as an Samhradh (gan smaoineamh ar obair scoile)
